Weekly Note - 8th February

So, I’m at a conference at The Emirates Stadium, home of Arsenal FC. The tables all have these Arsenal branded pens. Nothing flash, just a black biro with the team logo on there. I’m outside the stadium at lunchtime making some notes when I notice a few people wandering about, taking photos, selfies, group shots. Arsenal fans I assume, not Emirates Skywards loyalty card holders

I randomly pick one individual and walk up to him and ask if he is an Arsenal fan. In what I think was a French accent he replies yes. So, I gave him the pen. You should have seen the look of delight on his face! Very grateful.

Now here’s an individual who wasn’t buying anything, he was just enjoying ‘the brand’. He has now walked away thinking and possibly telling his friends that someone from Arsenal just gifted him one of their pens for no other reason than the fact that he was a fan. No purchase necessary. A real surprise and delight moment.
